New York City government is running a commercial that shows what civilians should do in case of a nuclear attack.
China and Russia are the two nuclear-armed adversaries of the US at the moment.
What's the purpose of this video? I suspect this is part of the propaganda campaign to PREPARE the public for a major war with either China or Russia, or both. Getting the public to support a major war is a huge challenge because people don't want to go to war and die, especially fighting overseas. Therefore, if you as the government want to wage a war oversea and want to get public support, you would probably want to slowly plant the war ideas in the public minds. Gradually over time, once the public is used to the war ideas, it's likely that they will support the gov when wars actually occur.
My theory is that the US Congress and gov DO want to go to war with Russia and China. Therefore, I believe we will see more and more of this kind of information campaigns that demonise the enemies (Russia, China) as well as prepare the public the possibilities of wars with these countries and how these wars will look like.
Why do the US want wars with Russia/China? Because these 2 countries are the leading charges in challenging the domination of the US. Their economic, military and influence powers are growing while that of the US is declining. The US clearly wants to reverse this trend. They can't do it economically because the US has become so much indebted and their financial and economic position is very unstable. Just think of the situation as an individual. When an individual has accumulate so much debt, say greater than 100% of annual income, there's little chance that the person can turn around without declaring bankruptcy. So the US has 2 choices now: (1) declare gov bankruptcy, cut gov expenses and rebuild the economy. This is an economic crisis (2) go to war with China & Russia and hope to defeat them. Choice #1 is too painful economically and politically. They won't choose this. Instead, they will increase gov budget and trade deficits by printing more money. Therefore, I think they will most likely choose option #2. What it means is major power conflicts and WW3. In what case this scenario is avoided? It's when the US gov & Congress accept the new world powers and withdraw troops from overseas. This normally won't happen by choice but by force, i.e. the US will be forced to close oversea military bases after they lose the next war. Right now, the US military is still strong so it's likely that they will want to fight before it's too late. That's why war is the most likely outcome.
